Explore social determinants of health & conduct online fieldwork

In this two-credit, online experiential course (Practicing Health Equity: HE 4901) you’ll study the social determinants of health and carry out anthropological fieldwork aimed at improving people’s lives and understanding community sustainability efforts in Brooklyn.

You’ll also use what you learn to identify, reflect on and discuss the social determinants of your own health.

Every day, you’ll attend online lectures by Weill Cornell Medicine faculty on the theory of health equity and medicine. You’ll explore disparities in health care delivery and outcomes as well as the conditions and processes you can put into place to increase health equity.

Then, you’ll use what you've learned in the lectures as you conduct online fieldwork and investigate how communities in Brooklyn are diminishing health disparities.

Finally, you'll write a case study addressing these issues and reflecting on what you have learned.
