BIOSM 4990 Research in Biology
Course description
Independent Biological Research: Independent study with a mentor from the Shoals Marine Laboratory core faculty, based on student faculty interest and available facilities. A short proposal of research will be developed based on BIOSM 1500 or another BIOSM course taken the same summer.
Outcome 1: Students will be able to execute experimental design, data collection and analysis, and interpretation of results during an independent, mentored research project.
Outcome 2: Use and maintain scientific instruments in the lab and field.
Outcome 3: Disseminate research findings through graphics, oral presentations and/or written documentation.
May be repeated for credit. Offered in Maine at Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island.
Prerequisites
BIOSM 1500 or, with permission from Shoals staff, another BIOSM course that covers subject matter conducive to a mentored follow-up project. Permission of Shoals Marine Lab required.
