For online summer/winter courses

To withdraw from a summer/winter online course, you must notify the Precollege Studies academic office in writing.

Your refund amount will be determined by the number of days from the start of your course that you withdrew. (It is not based on the day on which you enrolled.) For example: If your course begins on January 4, days 1-3 on the refund schedule below would be January 4, 5, and 6.

Tuition refund schedule (based on course start date)

  • Days 1-3: Withdrawal period with a 100 percent tuition refund
  • Days 4-5: Withdrawal period with a 50 percent tuition refund
  • Day 6: Withdrawal period with no refund

For online fall/spring courses

To withdraw from a fall/spring online course, you must notify the SCE registrar’s office in writing. Your refund amount will be determined by the prorated schedule on Cornell’s Office of the Bursar website.

For on-campus courses for commuter students

To withdraw before your course start date

  • Send written notification of your wish to withdraw to precollege@cornell.edu.
  • Your official date of withdrawal will be the date on which this email is sent.

To withdraw on or after your course start date

  • Meet with Jim Schechter, director, or Janna Dawn, associate director. Contact precollege@cornell.edu or 607.255.6203 to schedule an appointment.
  • Your official date of withdrawal will be the date on which you meet with them and withdraw.
  • You are required to leave campus on that day.

Can I get a refund if I withdraw from my on-campus course(s)?

A percent of your total course charge may be returned to you, depending on when you withdraw from your course(s).

Refunds for commuter students in summer, fall, or spring on-campus courses consist of tuition refunds only. See below.

Summer tuition refund schedule (based on course start date)

  • Days 1-3: Withdrawal period with a 100 percent tuition refund
  • Days 4-5: Withdrawal period with a 50 percent tuition refund
  • Day 6: Withdrawal period with no refund

Fall/Spring tuition refund schedule

Your refund amount will be determined by the prorated schedule on Cornell’s Office of the Bursar website.

No refund will be given to any student dismissed from a course.
