Tuition for the Summer Commuter Program
This page is for students taking on-campus courses as commuters. If you wish to live on campus during the summer and take part in precollege activities, please refer to the tuition page for the Summer Residential Program.
All credit courses offered through Cornell SCE are regular, credit-bearing Cornell University classes taught by Cornell instructors. The grades and credits you earn through these courses are recorded on an official Cornell transcript. As such, these classes — and all credit-bearing offerings — are subject to the Cornell tuition rate set by the university's Board of Trustees.
Tuition is $1,840 per credit for fall 2024 through summer 2025.
Example: A three-credit course at $1,840 per credit = $5,520
Cornell tuition does not include textbooks for the class.
Cornell's student health fee & insurance
All summer commuter students are also required to pay the summer Student Health Fee ($159 for 2025). See Health Services for Summer Students in On-Campus Courses.
If you live within the U.S.
You may choose whether to also enroll in Cornell’s Student Health Plan (SHP).
If you live outside the U.S.
You are required to enroll in Cornell's Student Health Plan (SHP) for the length of your program. There is an additional charge for this coverage that will be added to your program charge above.
The fees for Cornell's SHP in 2025 are $638 for a three-week session or $957 for the six-week session.
Payment deadlines & methods
A $1,500 nonrefundable deposit is required to secure a spot in the program. This deposit will be applied toward your total program charge.
The deadlines for these charges vary according to the session in which you enroll. See the Precollege Summer Academic Calendar for payment due dates.
International students
It is critical that you submit your total program charge as soon as possible so that we can issue you an I-20. Please visit our international student applicants page for visa information and English Language Proficiency requirements.
Official enrollment
You are not officially enrolled until you have submitted full payment and completed all required forms.
Program spaces are limited and other precollege and undergraduate students may be requesting seats in your course(s). You may lose your place if your class reaches its maximum enrollment before you submit your payment and complete your required forms. It is to your advantage to pay and submit your paperwork as soon as possible.
