To help you polish your academic skills and keep up with your coursework, Precollege Studies offers advising and support services.
Your professor's office hours
We strongly encourage you to take advantage of your professor's office hours and to reach out to your teaching assistant(s). One of the benefits of Cornell's precollege program is access to these top instructors. They are your best, first stop for academic support.
Precollege academic advising
In addition to your professor, the Precollege Studies staff is available for advising. If you have concerns about your courses, please contact the precollege office.
We are available
- Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–noon and 1:00–4:00 p.m.
- Friday, 9:00 a.m.–noon and 1:00–3:15 p.m.
At other times, please call 607.255.6203 for an appointment.
Cornell's Learning Strategies Center
Cornell's Learning Strategies Center (LSC) offers academic support services designed to help students master the academic rigors of Cornell and become actively engaged, successful, and independent learners.
For more information, visit the Learning Strategies Center.
Cornell's Learning Strategies Center encourages all students to take advantage of support services "because successful students ask for help when they need it."
Workshops and tutoring for summer residential students
Stop by Sunday through Thursday nights during the summer for
- Math tutoring (Balch Hall)
- Drop-in writing workshops and individualized help, including tips for writing an outstanding paper, offered by the John S. Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines, the premier writing program in the country (Klarman Hall)
Don't be shy about using these services; the skills and shortcuts you learn will benefit you in your college work.
Take a professor or TA to lunch
If you're a summer residential student, be sure to take advantage of our "Take a Prof or TA to Lunch" program. Get to know what makes your professors and teaching assistants tick—why they chose to teach and how they became interested in their fields.
To participate, first ask your instructor and/or TA when they are available to go to lunch with you and then pick up a lunch meal ticket from the precollege office in B20 Day Hall.
