Cornell's College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) offers precollege students a unique opportunity for summer study:

The Introduction to Architecture Summer Program

This intensive in-person program is for high school students considering a bachelor's degree in architecture and undergraduates considering a master's degree in architecture.

It will introduce you to architectural ideas, principles, and methods of exploring architectural problems in a studio setting.

In small groups, you'll work in the studio, attend lectures, and develop skills in workshops on representational techniques and portfolio design.

The program requires no specialized knowledge beyond a serious interest in architectural design.

The courses

In this program, you'll enroll in both of the following three-credit courses for a total of six credits:

Program highlights

Study architectural concepts of space, form, function, environment, and technology.
Learn the fundamentals of architecture or participate in design studios in the Rem Koolhaas- and OMA-designed Milstein Hall.
Develop architectural drawing and pragmatic drafting skills.
Participate in regular studio critiques by teaching associates and formal reviews by invited faculty and guest critics.
Build a portfolio and participate in a show of student work.
