Course description

This course introduces students to Cambodian economic and social development. We first examine Cambodia’s history to provide the backdrop to understanding its economy and society today. We will then try to understand Cambodia’s development trajectory, focusing on the role of political institutions, economic development strategies, and labor and education policies. The course involves a mix of lectures by scholars and policy makers, and field visits. Given that the labor intensive garment industry has contributed to making Cambodia one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, we will specially focus on the role of labor and human capital in Cambodia's development.
