SUBJECT:Summer Session 2026 Teaching Opportunities

Dear Faculty Members,

The School of Continuing Education (SCE) is committed to providing year-round educational opportunities to the University’s many constituencies, and a vibrant Cornell University Summer Session is an integral part of that mission.

I would like to invite you to submit a proposal to teach a course during Summer 2026. We are seeking on-campus and online courses that can be taught to undergraduates and graduate students in the Three-, Six-, or Eight-Week Sessions.

Courses that have proven particularly successful in the past are those that

  • Are regularly over enrolled in the fall or spring
  • Will not be offered the following year because of rotation or faculty leaves
  • Are offered to non-majors

If you are interested in proposing a course for next year, please visit our Course Proposals page for details. All tenured, tenure track, RTE, and emeritus/a faculty are welcome to submit proposals. Chris Hinman is available to provide any information you need at cch224@cornell.edu or 607.255.7078.

The submission due date for Summer Session proposals is January 4, 2026. Please work with your department to have your class(es) entered by then to be included in our marketing efforts. Note that we will, however, continue to accept proposals until the final deadline of January 11, 2026. At the deadline, the system will be closed so that SCE can review the proposals prior to class roster publication.

Further, we’re seeking additional on-campus and online courses for high school students. If your proposed course has department/instructor approval to be offered to qualified Precollege Studies students (rising high school juniors and seniors), please indicate this to the department course coordinator submitting your proposal for our review.

For information about offering a short-term international program during Summer Session, contact the Office of Global Learning.

Note about domestic off-campus courses: These site-based classes offered off the Ithaca campus but in the U.S., have a new budget model that gives instructors and departments autonomy and brings these classes in line with the international programs offered by the Office of Global Learning. SCE will limit its activities for these classes to rostering and enrollment management. The offering academic departments are responsible for all planning, financial, and logistical elements. This includes but is not limited to travel, accommodation, space rentals, instructor and TA salaries, and guest speaker honoraria. Faculty interested in offering such courses should contact their department chair. Proposals must be approved by your department chairperson and be submitted electronically by the department course coordinator.

I welcome your contributions to our efforts and look forward to working with you during the coming year. I encourage you to contact us to discuss any ideas, comments, or questions you might have.
