Cornell University's School of Continuing Education is pleased to present another fantastic lineup of summer concerts and lectures—always free and open to the public.

Performances include Latin jazz, rock, and reggae, plus engaging lectures from Cornell deans and faculty.

Paa Kow

Dubbed "Ghana's most artistic drummer" (Modern Ghana), Ghana-born drummer and composer, Paa Kow, (pronounced Pah-Ko) blends rhythm and artistry from his home with jazz and African roots creating his own Afro-Fusion sound.  Touring internationally with his custom Ghanaian drum set and his Afro-Fusion Orchestra,  Paa Kow brings concert goers an extraordinary musical experience filled with deep grooves and incredible beats.  Paa Kow has shared stages with many African and American luminaries including Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede and Victor Wooten.

As another way to kick off the summer, enjoy free ice cream from Cornell Dairy for the first 400 guests starting at 6:30 p.m.

AND to be sure to come early to visit the Johnson Museum of Art, which will be open for extended hours on June 28, from 11AM to 7PM. Explore the galleries, enjoy the warm summer air on the Mallin Sculpture Court under the light installation Cosmos, and stop by the Cox Studio on Floor 2L to make your own art-inspired button. I-bop Jazz Septet featuring Bill Easley

Celebrated saxophonist Bill Easley has toured with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, performed and recorded with renowned artists such as George Benson, Isaac Hayes and Wynton Marsalis, among many others, and has played numerous compositions on Broadway.

Easley appears at Cornell this summer on the Arts Quad with the I-bop Jazz Septet, featuring Paul Merrill, trumpet; Seth Carper, saxophones; Steve Brown, guitar; Dino Losito, piano; Peter Chwazik, bass, and Owen Erickson, drums.

Don’t miss this evening of extraordinary jazz. Free and open to the public. Presented by Cornell SCE.

Jorge T. Cuevas and the Caribe Jazz Allstars

Jorge T. Cuevas & The Caribe Jazz Allstars play a mix of irresistibly danceable Latin Jazz originals and jazz standards in the styles of salsa, cha cha, merengue, samba and swing.  This band and music always transform the Arts Quad into the best outdoor dance party! This time will be extra special with the addition of a Latin dance lesson from world-renowned Cuban dance instructor, Clara Nieto-Hernandez. Clara's company, Timba Con To, based here in Ithaca, is booked around the world for its top-tier dance instruction.

Gunpoets

The Gunpoets use "voice as a weapon and words as bullets to spread the universal message of peace, love, and justice through music." This seven-member live hip-hop band from Ithaca, NY is celebrated for their positive messages and uplifting performances. In addition to being one of the top homegrown acts, Gunpoets have become staples at regional festivals such as the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival and the Great Blue Heron Music Festival. Progressively, over the band's 15 years together, they have also become in-demand headliners at clubs and concert series across the Northeast.
