Activities for Residential Students
As a summer residential student at Cornell, you'll not only work hard, but you'll have a chance to play hard, too. The Summer Discovery staff will have some exciting extracurricular activities and fun excursions lined up for you during your time here on campus!
Here are some of the daily activities students have enjoyed in past years:
- Ice cream socials or trips to the Cornell Dairy Bar
- Lawn games
- Trivia nights
- Local performers (comedians, psychics, and more)
- Visit to the Cornell Botanic Gardens, 4,000 magnificent acres of rose gardens, lovely woodland trails, waterfalls, gorges, and ponds.
- Trips to local coffeehouses, and the Ithaca Commons
- The ever-popular Summer Talent Show
- Student selected clubs and activities, including a games club, various sports clubs, photography club, arts club, and more
- Studying outside of the residence halls at one of many campus libraries, or at the Cornell Store
- Sunset watching and star gazing from Libe Slope or the North Campus observatory
Evening and weekend activities enjoyed in the past have included:
- Outings to the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, the Lab of Ornithology, and the fabled Brain Collection at Uris Hall.
- Trips to the Ithaca Farmers Market and "gorgeous" area parks
- Movies (with popcorn, of course)
- Hiking, bowling, mini golf, and swimming
The Residential Program Fee helps cover the costs of activities like transportation, entrance fees, and supervision. Please keep in mind that souvenirs, extra food, and other personal expenses aren't included, so you might want to plan for those separately.
