Walking is generally over level ground for short distances. May require ability to climb stairs or to stand for periods of time.

Slightly active

May require extended walking over uneven ground as well as the ability to climb stairs and to stand for considerable periods of time.

Moderately active

Assumes the ability to walk for more than a mile over terrain that is sometimes rough, with varying elevations. A good sense of balance and athletic shoes or hiking boots are essential, and walking poles may be desirable.

Very active

Designed for those who are fit and accustomed to negotiating hilly, rough terrain. Hiking boots are essential, and walking poles may be desirable.
