Cornell offers wealth of summer study opportunities

School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, March 1, 2017

Online enrollment is now open for hundreds of Cornell courses offered on campus, online, and around the world during Summer Session.

Open to all and available in three-, six-, and eight-week sessions between May 31 and August 8, these courses are a great opportunity to study with outstanding faculty, gain valuable skills, grow professionally, explore new ideas, and catch up or get ahead on credits toward a degree.

Courses offered on campus run the gamut from microeconomics to thermodynamics, American sign language to Greek mythology. Some perennial favorites include Isaac Kramnick’s Introduction to Political Philosophy (GOVT 1615) and Robert Young's Green Cities (NTRES 2470).

Special programs allow students to combine travel with academics in programs such as Global Health in Tanzania, Imagining Rome, Performing and Media Arts in Europe, and summer study programs in Madrid and Turin. Domestic summer programs often include an internship component as well, as is the case with the Prelaw Program in New York City, led by C. Evan Stewart, one of America’s most distinguished lawyers.

More than 30 online courses give students an opportunity to continue their studies on the beach, on the road, or at home. This year’s online courses include Global Conversations with Entrepreneurs (HADM 4133/6133), The Anthropology and History of the Food You Eat (ANTHR 2496/4496), and America's Wars from Alexander Hamilton to Barack Obama and Beyond (HIST 1572).

Several courses are making their summer debut this year, including Introduction to International Relations (GOVT 1817), taught by political science professor Chip Gagnon, a scholar at the Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies, and Negotiations and Conflict Resolution (ILRLR 3035), taught by Rocco Scanza, director of the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution and an attorney, arbitrator, and mediator of labor and employment disputes.
