Dean Glenn Altschuler

Welcome to the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions (Cornell SCE).

Dating back to when the first summer classes were offered at Cornell in 1876, SCE continues to focus on presenting the broadest possible range of high-quality learning opportunities to the university’s many constituencies.

Every year, more than 6,000 traditional and non-traditional students—from undergrads and high school students to professionals, retirees, and even children—take part in SCE programs on campus, online, and around the world.

We are dedicated to ensuring that our academic offerings are of the highest quality and to developing new offerings that extend Cornell’s reach in time, place, format, and audience.

Our Summer Session is among the oldest and most prestigious in the country; our acclaimed Summer College ranks among the largest and best precollege programs in the country, attracting as many as 1,500 students from more than 40 countries around the world every summer; and Cornell’s Adult University (CAU) offers thought-provoking summer programs and unforgettable travel adventures year-round designed and taught by some of Cornell’s most esteemed and engaging faculty members.

One of the things I’m proudest of as dean is the stability of our staff, in Summer and Winter Sessions, Summer College and CAU, Special Programs and Professional Studies, budget and finance, accounting, communications, our registrar's office, and, most of all, in our senior associate dean, Charles W. Jermy, Jr., who has been the heart and soul of the operation for well over four decades. They deserve all of the credit for building programs that have stood the test of time and that continue to evolve.

We invite you to choose one or more of our many offerings, confident that you will be enriched by your experience.
