Notes: | The course will introduce students to a wide array of spatial data analytical techniques and will be organized as follows: 1) Students will learn the fundamentals of programming with Python and basic data skills to collect, manage, and visualize spatial data and integrate them into spatial analyses. Topics may include the basic Python syntax and functions, web scraping data, Map APIs, and spatial data management using Pandas and Geopandas. 2) Students will analyze and interpret spatial data to answer urban-related research questions using a variety of software platforms. Topics may include exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA), spatial autocorrelation, spatial regression (including geographically weighted regression), as well as clustering and classification using machine learning. Students will have rich hands-on experience with Python in class. Basic skills in GIS and Python are preferred but not required. |
